YOULL-MISS-ME-final-final-final-header

Hi, YABCers!

Today we're super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for YOU'LL MISS ME WHEN I'M GONE by Rachel Lynn Solomon, releasing January 2, 2018 from Simon Pulse. Before we get to the cover, here's a note from Rachel:

Hi YABC!

It feels surreal and wonderful that today is cover reveal day! YOU'LL MISS ME WHEN I'M GONE, my debut YA contemporary, has had a long journey to publication and was almost shelved multiple times. It is truly the book of my heart -- I poured so many things I love into it -- and I can't imagine debuting with anything else. I'm beyond thrilled to share the cover here on YABC, along with a giveaway.

YOU'LL MISS ME WHEN I'M GONE is a dual POV novel about fraternal twin sisters Adina and Tovah who receive opposite results from a genetic test for Huntington's disease. Even at the beginning of the book, the sisters aren't close, and the test results push them even farther apart before they can figure out how to come back to each other. The book also deals with first love, Jewish identity, ambition, desire, and female sexuality, a handful of topics I'm extremely passionate about in YA.

The brilliant designer, Sarah Creech, wanted to convey the distance between Adina and Tovah and the contrast between the dark and beautiful parts of life -- the dead leaves with the lush autum colors, the different fonts used for the title. The book takes place in Seattle, and I love how this cover feels so Pacific Northwest! Ultimately, the goal was for the image to strike a somber but hopeful note, which is what the book aims to do, too.

Thank you so much for taking a peek -- I hope you love it as much as I do!

Rachel

About the Book

Eighteen-year-old twins Adina and Tovah have little in common besides their ambitious nature. Viola prodigy Adina yearns to become a soloist—and to convince her music teacher he wants her the way she wants him. Overachiever Tovah awaits her acceptance to Johns Hopkins, the first step on her path toward med school and a career as a surgeon.

But one thing could wreck their carefully planned futures: a genetic test for Huntington’s, a rare degenerative disease that slowly steals control of the body and mind. It’s turned their Israeli mother into a near stranger and fractured the sisters’ own bond in ways they’ll never admit. While Tovah finds comfort in their Jewish religion, Adina rebels against its rules.

When the results come in, one twin tests positive for Huntington’s, and the other tests negative.

These opposite outcomes push them farther apart as they wrestle with guilt, betrayal, and the unexpected thrill of first love. How can they repair their relationship, and is it even worth saving?

From debut author Rachel Lynn Solomon comes a luminous, heartbreaking tale of life, death, and the fragile bond between sisters.

I think the cover is absolutely beautiful and it sounds like an amazing book considering I have a sister (though almost exactly 10 years younger on the dot) that I am very close with, so even though we are not twins I still know what it's like to have that sister bond but I also know firsthand how fragile & easily broken that bond can be at times.

I really enjoy the composition of the cover art. I think that we only see the figures in the water's reflection is a great symbol of the way we're probably going to see Tovah and Adina - uncertain of themselves, a little fragile, and tempestuous. I like that we see an autumn scene, of life changing in dramatic ways around the two figures, and I think the color scheme is both comforting and, at the same time, disconcerting, with the inevitability of mortality on display. I think it's an excellent cover that relates to what we know of the story so far, and I really look forward to reading it!
