It's Live!! Cover Reveal: The Midnights by Sarah Nicole Smetana + Giveaway (US/Canada)
Today we're super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for THE MIDNIGHTS by Sarah Nicole Smetana, releasing March 6, 2018 from Harper Teen. Before we get to the cover, here's a note from Sarah:
Hello, YABC! I am beyond thrilled to share with you the cover of my debut novel, THE MIDNIGHTS. You can read more about the book below, but one of the things I love most about this cover is that it's such a beautiful window into the story. Between the text, the palm trees, and the blue ocean-like hair, it has a distinct California vibe, which is so important to me because the Southern California landscape plays a significant role in the novel. Then there's the protagonist, Susannah: her eyes are cast down, as though in a daydream, and it is clear that she is caught in a state of in-between. She is existing in one world, a daytime world, full of responsibilities and obligations, but in her mind it is the middle of night—the world of her music, her father, her dreams. (And aren't the midnight sunglasses just the coolest? I still can't get over how much I love them!) A thousand thank yous to Mia Nolting, the wonderful artist, and everyone at HarperTeen for making this cover shine!

Susannah Hayes has never been in the spotlight, but she dreams of following her father, a former rock star, onto the stage. As senior year begins, she’s more interested in composing impressive chord progressions than college essays, certain that if she writes the perfect song, her father might finally look up from the past long enough to see her.
But when he dies unexpectedly, her dreams—and her reality—shatter.
While Susannah struggles with grief, her mother uproots them to a new city. There, Susannah realizes she can reinvent herself however she wants: a confident singer-songwriter, member of a hip band, embraced by an effortlessly cool best friend. But Susannah is not the only one keeping secrets, and soon, harsh revelations threaten to unravel her life once again.
Set against the scintillating landscape of Southern California, THE MIDNIGHTS is an evocative coming-of-age debut about loss, creativity, and finding your voice while you’re still finding yourself.
Sarah Nicole Smetana grew up in Orange, California, where she wrote songs, played in a few bands, and successfully pilfered all of her parents’ best vinyl records. She received her BFA in Creative Writing from Chapman University and her MFA in Fiction from The New School. Currently, she lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their three-legged cat. THE MIDNIGHTS is her first novel.

This novel sounds really interesting. And I love the cover. Cool design. I would pick up this novel just because of the cover. ?
The cover really caught my attention. Did the author model for it?
I wish I'd only read the first paragraph of the synopsis. I worry that it gave away too much information, and spoilers make me sad.
Am i the only one who noticed that the author looks like the girl on the cover....? I like it though! I think we all know what it's like to deal with grief, so I can't wait to read this book. ;/
I think the cover is one of the most beautiful things I've seen all year!!! I love the background and the color scheme and the little moon and the title and just ughh, everything about it! I'm excited to support a diverse author as well!
The cover is beautiful and so aesthetically pleasing. I'm so excited to have it on my shelf. The synopsis makes me want this book even more! I can already tell that this character and her story are going to be so dear and personal to me.
The cover lacks the depth that this synopsis promises with the coming of age and loss of a father. This book sounds emotional and my favorite kind to read.
I just don't know what it is... The illustration? The colours? I'm just not a fan of the cover. At all.
The synopsis sounds like it's going to be a very interesting and emotional read. Book cover aside, I'm still adding it to my TBR.
