As the author, artist, and designer creating this story was a daunting task — from each word, to the page layout, to the cover, to the art—so it is an honor to be sharing this with all of you on YABC. There is so much more to come this year and I hope to see more of you all as the countdown continues! THE KEY: THE EIGHT PILLARS OF TIMBUKTU

Release Date: August 8, 2018

About the Book

A historic treasure holding great power emerges from the shadows that could save or destroy the wealthiest empire on earth. Those in power seek it, but as fate intervenes, it ends up in the most unlikely of places—the hands of a 14-year-old girl named Talem Ralzu who was torn from her family in a time of war.

As Talem embarks on a search to find her long lost brother and be reunited with her family, she travels to the greatest and most fortified kingdom known to man, Timbuktu—the very home of the people responsible for tearing her family apart. But when the boundaries of law and power crumble, Talem, and her sisters, Ajät and Jadniah face a test that will completely turn their quest into a test none of them could have imagined

As they each arrive at the same city of gold they soon discover it’s not what it seems. In the middle of a regional war and a broken nation, a long-buried secret threatens the Royal house and their brother may be at the center of it all. As the tides turn, they soon discover they may have to risk everything—a life of peace, to get it all back. But a bigger sacrifice may have to be made.

About the Author

Amira Rasayon, an experienced Graphic Designer and Exhibits Specialist received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, MD. She has designed info-graphics, signage, and installed multiple exhibits seen by thousands of visitors at the National Museum of American History (NMAH). Amira has a range of experience in web design, branding, graphic design, and has designed graphics for a number of exhibits at Washington, DC’s newest museum, the Museum of the Bible.

In the Spring of 2012, Amira experienced one of the hardest times in her life—the passing of her little sister at the age of 17. Re-evaluating life and focusing on work and art, she turned to what kept her whole—writing. The idea of recording moments in time has always been an important aspect in her work. As an artist she embraced the same concept in her writing by emphasizing history and telling a story of who African-Americans were before coming to America. It is the story that pays tribute and reveals the truth of the African-American lineage—the old history of Africa.

Wow. I have to admit that I am intrigued by the synopsis of this book.
I am also impressed that Amira Rasayon did all the graphics herself including creating the cover. I think that is awesome.
I am adding this book to my TBRR list (To Be Read and Reviewed)
