Hi, YABCers!
Today we’re super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for COLD SUMMER by Gwen Cole, releasing May 2017 from Sky Pony Press. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Gwen:
Hello YABC community and welcome to the cover reveal for my YA debut COLD SUMMER! I’m thrilled to be sharing it today and I hope everyone loves it just as much as I do. My team at Skyhorse/Sky Pony Press did the most fantastic job of creating the exact cover I had in mind. The most important thing to me was capturing both seasons in the same picture, and the colors match the tone of the book perfectly. I couldn’t be happier with the end result and I hope you guys love it, too!

COLD SUMMER
Today, he’s a high school dropout with no future.
Tomorrow, he’s a soldier in World War II.
Kale Jackson has spent years trying to control his time-traveling ability but hasn’t had much luck. One day he lives in 1945, fighting in the war as a sharpshooter and helplessly watching soldiers—friends—die. Then the next day, he’s back in the present, where WWII has bled into his modern life in the form of PTSD, straining his relationship with his father and the few friends he has left. Every day it becomes harder to hide his battle wounds, both physical and mental, from the past.
When the ex-girl-next-door, Harper, moves back to town, thoughts of what could be if only he had a normal life begin to haunt him. Harper reminds him of the person he was before the PTSD, which helps anchor him to the present. With practice, maybe Kale could remain in the present permanently and never step foot on a battlefield again. Maybe he can have the normal life he craves.
But then Harper finds Kale’s name in a historical article—and he’s listed as a casualty of the war. Kale knows now that he must learn to control his time-traveling ability to save himself and his chance at a life with Harper. Otherwise, he’ll be killed in a time where he doesn’t belong by a bullet that was never meant for him.

Time travel books are so cool! My daughter would love this one.
I need this yesterday
I love the clean-cut design of the cover, and the allusion to genre-bending that the lovely Gwen Cole has cooked up for us. As for the synopsis, my favorite buzzwords are being thrown left and right: a WWII narrative, contentious time travel, and a proper dose of angst.
But most importantly, I can finally enjoy a narrative from the perspective of my favorite friendly neighborhood leaf cabbage, Brassica oleracea var. sabellica (commonly referred to as… kale). *heart eyes* My body is ready.
This cover is gorgeous! I love the colours!
The synopsis also sounds really intriguing, I love books about time travel. ??
I am really intrigued by this novel’s incorporation of a character struggling with PTSD. I cannot remember reading another YA novel featuring that topic. I respect the author’s ambition and want to learn more about PTSD. Thanks for this, Kara S
I’ve read quite a few time traveling books lately, and really dig them. The element of PSTD will add unique element that differs from the ones I read before. The cover is beautiful, I love the watercolor element it has.
I love that cover. It’s so pretty. It sounds pretty interesting too.
The cover is like a work of art! I love time travel books so, of course, I loved the entire premise of this book. Everything about it just sounds unique and interesting. As a History Major, I love the way the author mixed in historical fiction with science fiction … this is going to be one excellent read!
Cold summer sounds like a good read ♡ Thank you
I think the cover is great!
I love the cover! It has the cold colors for Kale and warm colors for Harper. The synopsis is exciting and makes this a must read for me with the time travel and life-threatening problem that Kale must overcome.
The cover is really gorgeous and I am a huge fan of time travel stories so this one is on my list!
Cover is gorgeous and the synop sounds awesome!
I love the cover and the synopsis sounds so exciting
This cover is amazing! Was it on swoon reads by any chance because I’ve definitely read the synopsis before? The time travel aspect makes me really excited to read it.
I love to read books with time travel, and after just recently discussing World War ll, I am ready to read this book!
I would totally read this book just for the cover! It’s beautiful! I’m really excited about Kale and Harper’s romance and I need to read this!
