Hi, YABCers!
Today we’re super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for REDUX (Tricksters #2) by A.L. Davroe, releasing March 21, 2017 from Entangled Teen. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from A.L. and the cover for the first book, NEXIS, for reference:
Hello everyone! My name is A.L. Davroe (but you can call me Amanda), and I’m the author of The Tricksters series with Entangled Teen. I’m very excited to present to you the cover for the next book in the series, Redux. *cue trumpet blasts* Let me tell you that Redux had a tough act to follow. The cover of the first book, Nexis, is absolutely stunning and spot on in its ability to capture the futuristic, technological city of Evanescence and the main character, Ella. I was a little worried that the cover for Redux wouldn’t be as captivating as Nexis, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The first thing that you’ll notice is that Redux is an echo cover: Red, white, and blue color scheme. Girl in a dress in front of a window overlooking a city. But, the girls, the windows, and the cities are very different and there is a reason for that (besides the fact that the setting changes). How can I tell? Oh, I’m so glad you asked about the artist’s use of light and symbolism! *clears throat, cracks knuckles, gives you just a smidgen of the three pages she just wrote on the subject:*
In Nexis, the light is just starting to shine on a shy, uncertain Ella who’s hidden in the shadows. In Redux, the lights are on full blast and Ella’s posture says she’s comfortable with herself and not hiding (or being hidden) anymore. She’s standing in full view of the outside world is glaringly on display for the world to see and likewise examining it herself. And what does she see? Destruction and devastation. And what is she doing? Breaking the glass between her and it. Even the glass has it’s own special symbolism. It’s a barrier. It’s invisible. It separates Ella’s world from the outside world on so many levels. And she’s all about breaking it. And oh, does she break it.
I have to say that I love that she somehow manages to retain introspective body language as it’s something that is so fundamental to Ella’s cerebral character. She’s also, once again, in a stunning, gown which alludes to her obsession with fashion and the futuristic fabrics found in her home. She’s normal looking, which is important as her role as a Natural is a huge part of her character.
In all, while it’s a clear mimic — something I think is necessary in a series — Redux’s cover still manages to have its own personality and tells you that this is a different story than the first book. In this new book Ella has found herself and her purpose. She’s a force to be reckoned with — a shining beacon of hope, destruction, and creation — and that’s exactly what this cover says. I hope you love this book and its cover as much as I do. Happy reading!

REDUX (Tricksters #2)
The domed city of Evanescence is in ruins. With nowhere to go, prodigy hacker Ellani “Ella” Drexel and a small band of survivors flee to the Undertunnel below their city.
To escape the wasteland she unknowingly created.
But sanctuary is hard to find. With malfunctioning androids and angry rebels at their backs, the group hopes to press on for the neighboring city of Cadence. But Ella’s chosen path is challenging…life-threatening, even. Worse, the boy she loves is acting distant, and not at all like the person she first met in Nexis.
But then Ella learns a secret…and it changes everything.
Ella knows she needs to turn back and make a stand to reclaim her home. She’s determined to bring a new—and better—life to all who’ve suffered.
Or die trying.
About the Author
By day, Amanda lives in Connecticut with her two feline hench-creatures. She’s a terrible blusher, has a weak spot for cuddly animals, loves Laffy Taffy and Cadbury MiniEggs, and she’s a huge advocate of alternative healing methods. Amanda also wears purple shoes and corsets…Though not always in the same ensemble. She’s a Capricorn, a Hufflepuff, a bit gothic, and a few nuggets short of a Happy Meal. Amanda also suffers from Resting Bitchface Syndrome (RBS), so even though she might look like she’ll tie you in a knot if you come near her, she’s more afraid of you than you are of her.
