Giveaway: THE MONSTROUS CHILD (US Only)

The Monstrous Child (US Only)

by: Francesca Simon (with Illustrations by Olivia Gill)

Release Date: June 6, 2017

Publisher: Faber & Faber

About the Book:

“The first sentence of this novel came to me on the subway in New York, and I instantly heard Hel's cool, sarcastic, funny, adolescent voice. Once I realized that the Norse Goddess of the Dead was a child like her brothers, then I knew I had a story.”

Francesa Simon, on her inspiration for THE MONSTROUS CHILD

Meet Hel, an ordinary angsty teenager. She has to put up with her annoying brothers (a snake and a wolf) and her obnoxious parents (a giantess and a God) and deal with her duties as goddess of the Underworld. Why is life so unfair? Hel tries to make the best of it, creating gleaming halls in her dark kingdom and wel-coming the dead who she is forced to host for eternity. But then eternity itself is threatened, and Hel faces the challenge of her life.

Beautifully written — moody, funny, and atmospheric — this is Norse mythology in a hugely readable, captivating crossover YA novel unlike anything else on the shelves.
