AWARD-WINNING DIGITAL MEDIA STAR ZACH KING SIGNS BOOK DEAL WITH HARPERCOLLINS
PUBLISHERS

ZACH KING: MY MAGICAL LIFE publishes in the US on September 26, 2017—

New York, NY (May 8, 2017)—HarperCollins Publishers announced today the acquisition of award-winning digital media star Zach King’s first middle grade book, ZACH KING: MY MAGICAL LIFE, the first in a three-book series. North American rights were sold to David Linker, Executive Editor, HarperCollins Children’s Books, from CAA.

ZACH KING: MY MAGICAL LIFE is a fun-filled middle-grade adventure that chronicles a seventh grader’s search of his true magical powers. Everyone in Zach’s family has a magical power. His father can turn back time, his sister can turn invisible, and his mother can transform any object into something else. And Zach . . . well, he hasn’t found his magic and his family is growing worried that he may have been “skipped.” His parents decide to stop homeschooling him in the magical arts and send him instead to a regular middle school with regular kids. To Zach, it’s the worst news ever. Who wants to be ordinary when everyone around them is extraordinary?

King’s highly anticipated debut novel will mix traditional storytelling with graphic novel-style sections all of which comes with a free downloadable augmented reality (AR) app that animates the illustrations, bringing them to three-dimensional life.

“The book started as a passion project to give an answer to the fans that would ask me "how I got my magic,” says Zach King. “The story is a fun origin story for all the magic tricks that our audience has come to know. I'm honored to be working with HarperCollins on the book, and it's been hard to keep the project a secret from the fans for such a long time. I hope they enjoy reading it!”

"I couldn't be more excited to be publishing Zach King's hilarious new middle grade series," says David Linker, Executive Editor, HarperCollins Children's Books. "Zach speaks with an authenticity that kids relate to, has an irreverent sense of humor that anyone with a funny bone will find irresistible, and has a legion of devoted fans that will delight in seeing his world brought life like this. It's the perfect intersection of great traditional storytelling and the power of social media done in a way only a singular talent like Zach could do."

Zach King is a twenty-seven-year-old filmmaker who creates videos with a hint of “magic.” With more than 25 million followers across his various social platforms and 350 million views across YouTube, Zach King is one of the hottest names in digital media. His filmmaking prowess and ability to add “magic” into his clips has gotten him noticed by the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Larry King, and Good Morning America and has landed him spots on the red carpets at the Academy Awards and the London Film Festival. He’s also partnered with family-friendly brands to create mind-blowing videos, including Nike, Coca-Cola, Crayola, Lego, Disney, and Kellogg’s, and was the co-director on the lyric video for Justin Bieber’s hit single, “Sorry.”

ZACH KING: MY MAGICAL LIFE has caught the eye of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest.  Steven Spielberg and his production company, Amblin Entertainment, have picked up the rights and currently have it in development. King’s genuine talent in filmmaking led him to win YouTube’s 2013 NextUp Creators contest. In 2016, Zach and his wife, Rachel, competed in The Amazing Race along with other social media superstars. His success has allowed him to build a multimedia studio, and with his team by his side, Zach continues to expand and create curious and contagious content for viewers around the world.
