Introducing Bethany Wicker, YABC's Author of the Week!!
Bethany Wicker resides in Louisiana and is a new mom who loves to read and write any chance she gets. She has a loving husband, Lucien, a beautiful daughter named Henley, and an amazing family who support her passion for writing. Her inspiration comes from her friends, family, and the support from BB. She loves young adult fiction of all sorts and thanks God for giving her the strength to finish novels of her own. She is obsessed with Disney, Dr. Pepper, and White Chocolate Mochas, especially from Starbucks. She also loves food and is always excited to try new things.
Meet Unexpected Alpha!
Female Alphas are unheard of in werewolf society, and the Sapphire Pack is no different. So when Lena’s father dies, no one is more shocked than she to discover that his Alpha powers have transferred to her. Lena has her hands full protecting her pack from hunters and rogue wolves, while simultaneously facing prejudices and power-hungry males who want to mate with her just to steal her title.
But when the uber-sexy Kane enters the picture, Lena gets a lot more than she bargained for. He irritates her to no end, while giving her butterflies at the same time. With his interference and her new-found power bubbling under her skin, something inside her changes, leaving her confused as to what she truly is. She soon discovers that searching for answers is most difficult when the last person she can trust is the only one who has them.
YABC: What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
All of my books are inspired by dreams I've had. I'm also a frequent daydreamer and that's how the plots usually become more developed. This was just one of the first of many.
YABC: Who is your favorite character in the book?
Oh man. That's a hard one because I love all of my characters for their own reasons. For example, Marie is based off of my close friend Mariah. Kane is fun and Lena is strong. But I guess if I would have to choose, Stark would be my favorite from the Aluna Series. He's loyal and always there for Lena no matter what.
YABC: Which came first, the title or the novel?
The title and blurb are actually the first things I come up with. Once I have the blurb and title, the rest of the story becomes clear.
YABC: Thinking way back to the beginning, what's the most important thing you've learned as a writer from then to now?
I've learned so much since my first book and it's one thing that I love to watch. I can see, as my books add up, my writing gets better and better. I learn as I go, just like anyone else, and for that, I'm a better writer today. I'll only continue to grow.
YABC: What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2018?
I love Sarah J. Maas, so I am eagerly and impatiently waiting for A Court of Frost and Starlight. I love Rhysand.
YABC: What was your favorite book in 2015?
Oooh that's a hard one too. I love books and picking a favorite would be like choosing a favorite relative or child. It's impossible. I'll tell you the ones that stood out to me. Warcross by Marie Lu, A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas, Prophesy of Darkness my Michelle Bryan and Michelle Lynn, Loved by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, oh man I could go on forever so I'm going to stop here.
YABC: What's up next for you?
My next book comes out January 2nd and it's going to be a part of the Sirens and Scales Box Set. It's called The Pirate's Siren. Sera is born from two races-siren and human-but both want her dead. I'm also working on the fifth of the Aluna Series, which I hope to have out for the spring.
YABC: Is there anything that you would like to add?
Maybe just a little bit more about me. I have a beautiful daughter who is my world. I wouldn't be able to get through a day without coffee. I love to binge watch tv seasons. I love meeting fellow book lovers. I have too many book boyfriends to count on one hand. :P
YABC: Which character gave you the most trouble when writing your latest book?
To be honest, the whole book of The Pirate's Siren was harder to write and took me longer than my werewolf ones. I took a step out of my comfort zone, but I liked it.
YABC: What would you say is your superpower?
My superpower (besides being a mom) would be my ability to sit down and write without planning things out. It all just comes to me as I write and next thing you know, I have a new book.
